1966 Rolex Daytona (Ref. 6239) Silver “Little Daytona” Dial

$ 65,000

Rolex Daytona Double Swiss

The first Comosgraph was launched in 1963 with the reference 6239 with a stainless steel bezel, and then later with the reference 6241 with the black bakelite bezel. The Cosmograph Daytona was originally produced in stainless steel, 14k, and 18k gold versions until 1969. The earliest Daytona variants to receive "Daytona" on the dial, and before the Daytona text was seen curved above the 6 o'clock sub-dial, featured the Daytona text below "Cosmograph" in the upper portion of the dial. The Daytona text was seen in either a large text format or small text format, hence the denomination "little Dayonta" and "Large Daytona" for these early variants. These dials are cherished by collectors as they employ the "less is more" stylistic dial format, with the text grouped together on the upper portion of the dial and the remainder of the dial to speak for itself and not be interrupted by numerous lines of text.

This 1966 Rolex Daytona ref. 6239 with a silver "little Daytona" dial meets all the standards for a collectors grade Rolex Cosmograph. The dial itself is exceptional and retains all of its tritium lume plots fully intact, which is rarely seen. This Daytona ref. 6239 would be a stylish companion for the collector who enjoys the understated nuances of early Rolex and appreciates the robust history of the Rolex Daytona Cosmograph.
