The Omega Speedmaster Professional is undoubtedly a beloved chronograph. Its rich history began with its involvement in automotive racing before transitioning to aviation and eventually becoming a crucial part of NASA's U.S. Space Program. The vintage Omega Speedmaster collection boasts a range of references, each with its own subtle differences that add to the overall individuality of each timepiece.

Buzz Aldren Omega Speedmaster

(Buzz Aldrin Wearing His NASA-Issued Omega Speedmaster Professional, Apollo 11)

The reference 105.012 Speedmaster Professional is best known as the first watch worn on the moon as Buzz Aldrin wore this exact reference during the iconic Apollo 11 mission. Subsequently, the ref. 105.012 is often referred to as the "Buzz Aldrin" within the community. Apart from the reference's mission accolades, the reference 105.012 is also known as the very first "Speedmaster Professional" and the first Speedmaster to feature the now standard asymmetric case with "twisted" lugs.

CASE & BRACELET

The asymmetrical, twisted lug case has been gently polished in the past and retains full lugs that show gentle signs of use. The original "dot over 90" bezel has achieved a handsome ghost patina, featuring honest signs of use that supplement the vintage aesthetic of the watch. The case retains its original pump pushers, the crown is an early replacement. The "pre-moon" case back is in wonderful condition, showing gentle wear from use and retaining its original "Speedmaster" and Hippocampus engravings in clear condition. The watch comes on a 2pc handmade leather rally-style strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The original applied-logo dial has achieved a stunning and truly impressive "tropical" patina, featuring a vivid brown coloration that is perfectly consistent throughout the entire dial. The dial does show some elements of age, namely the lume is mostly missing from the dial and there are some imperfections present in the dial which is expected for a dial with such an impressive patina. The tritium hands remain bright white and offered a handsome contrast to the dial, under U.V. light inspection the chronograph hand is missing its lume, the minute hand shows lume degradation, and the hour hand lume is fully intact.

ACCESSORIES

None. The watch is keeping time and functioning correctly, backed by a 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
