1973 Rolex Red Submariner (Ref. 1680) Mk. VI Dial
The Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 is a stunning classic. First introduced in 1969, the Ref. 1680 includes the date, unlike previous Submariners (ie. Ref. 5512 and 5513). The Infamous Red Submariner is also a Ref. 1680 which had the word "Submariner" in red lettering which was produced by Rolex from 1969-1975.
The Mark VI dial differentiates itself with the following which can be seen in the text located above the 6 o'clock – starting with a serial number that falls in the correct range for this type of dial which starts in tin the id 3m range and ends at the 4m. The Mark VI dial posses a feet-first depth rating. red lettering is printed directly on the dial as apposed to over white text. the “6” in the depth rating are closed as opposed to open and the “S’ looks rounded and not flat like the other MK variants of the Red Submariner dial.
This specific Red Submariner is in very good overall condition piece would make a versatile daily driver in a casual setting or would look great paired with a suit. The Ref. 1680 is an all-around wonderful sport watch, and would make a nice addition to an existing collection, or would be a unique stand-alone vintage piece.
