1978 Rolex Submariner (Ref.1680)
The Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 is a stunning classic. First introduced in 1969, the Ref. 1680 includes the date, unlike previous Submariners (ie. Ref. 5512 and 5513). The Infamous Red Submariner is also a Ref. 1680 which had the word "Submariner" in red lettering, manufactured from 1969-1975. This watch is an example of what is referred to as the "White Dial." It is the first Ref. 1680 with the word "submariner" in white lettering.
This Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 would make a versatile daily driver in a casual setting or would look great paired with a suit. The Ref. 1680 is an all-around wonderful sport watch, and would make a nice addition to an existing collection, or would be a unique stand-alone vintage piece.

The thick case has been lightly polished in the past and retains symmetrical lugs that show very little signs of use. The original "fat-font" bezel insert has faded to a lovely grey coloration and retains its tritium pearl at the 12 o'clock position which matches the dial perfectly. The later Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 580 and pieces is in excellent condition showing almost no stretch and retains 11 links.
The matte black dial is absolutely flawless, showing no imperfections or signs of aging. The tritium lume plots have taken on a handsome creamy patina and exhibit no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The original tritium hands match the dial nicely and show no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The metallic date wheel is correct with open 6's and 9's.
None. The watch was recently serviced and is running at COSC spec backed by a 1-year warranty of accurate timekeeping.
