1980 Rolex Datejust (Ref. 16018) 18k YG Onyx Dial
On an extremely limited basis, Rolex manufactured timepieces featuring exotic materials. Such as dials made from various minerals, woods, and stone including; black onyx, burl wood, lapis lazuli, birch, fossil, coral, aventurine, and ferrite, among others… These exotic variants are always strikingly vivid with a minimalist design and each exotic variant was produced in very limited numbers. With rarity varying between materials, the more rare the material was, the less Rolex produced.
The Datejust stone dials are elusive as Rolex stone dials are most commonly seen in the Day-Date references. The onyx stone pairs perfectly with the gold Datejust that creates depth in the dial that is rarely seen in a wristwatch and loved by collectors.

CASE & BRACELET
The strong 18k yellow gold case is believed to remain unpolished as it retains its original factory dimensions, though features a "sleeve-polish" from being worn and the case shows honest signs of use. The 18k yellow gold fluted bezel remains sharp with very little signs of use. The sapphire crystal is in overall excellent condition, with minimal wear on the corner of its bottom right side. The original 18k yellow gold Rolex 8386 hidden clasp Jubilee bracelet with 49 end pieces remains unpolished as well with the matching "sleeve-polish" finish as the case, the bracelet retains 21 links and has some stretch from use.
DIAL & HANDS
The striking deep black onyx dial is in flawless and original condition, there is no cracking or blemishing to the dial. The gold text jumps off the dial and is in great condition as well, the top part of the second "S" in "Swiss" at the 6 o'clock is partially missing as seen in photos. The original solid gold hands and in excellent condition. The date wheel is era correct with open 6's and 9's.

None. The watch is running at spec but extended service history is unknown.
