This specific 1983 Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 is commonly referred to as the Maxi Mk V Dial. The Mk V dial is commonly seen in cases stamped in the 7 mil to 8 mil range. The features of the Maxi V Dial include the following:

  • "Open 6's" in the feet first depth rating
  • The word “SUBMARINER” written above the depth rating and is longer than the depth rating.
  • The “=” sign in the depth rating is directly below the “A” in “SUBMARINER”

This specific 1983 Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 is in fantastic condition. The lume plots and hands have achieved an ivory-like patina and the original insert remains deep black in color. This would make a great daily driver and has the classic matte dial Rolex look and feel.

The bezel is sharp and the bezel insert remains deep black in coloration showing only slight signs of fading, the insert also retains the pearl at the 12 o'clock position. The watch will come on a 2pc handmade leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The matte black MAXI MK V dial is in excellent condition. The lume plots have achieved a wonderful ivory patina and show no degradation under U.V. light. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and under U.V. light inspection the hour and sweep-seconds hand show as fully intact, the minute hand retains its original lume but was slightly repaired at some point prior to our acquisition as you can see a variance in the coloration of the lume only when inspected under U.V. light and is not noticeable with the naked eye.
