*Rare* 1986 Rolex Day-Date (Ref. 18038) White Lacquer "Stella Dial" W/ Hebrew Day Wheel
In 1977 Rolex updated the iconic Day-Date model aka the President by introducing Ref. 18038 which introduced some major changes to the Day-Date line of watches. The first of the major updates was the introduction of a sapphire crystal and a quick set date function aka the "single quick" which was the result of Rolex using a new movement, the Rolex caliber 3055.
The Stella Dials: For a short period of time, Rolex went against the grain with the most unique and vibrant dials they ever produced. Known today as Stella dials, which is either a nod to the famous artists "Frank Stella" known for the use of bright colors in his work or the Latin word for star, which is also "Stella". These dials were manufactured through a multi-layered lacquer process which gives Stella dials their immense depth and vibrancy. These dials are seen in a variety of different colors from bright blue, lime green, pink, oxblood, white, and yellow. Rolex Day-Dates featuring Stella dials have become some of the most important Day-Dates for collectors as they represent a time in Rolexes history when they dared to do something out of the box, though short-lived. Stella Dials are few and far between especially in good condition as many of these dials were damaged or switched out over the years.
The Hebrew Day Wheel: Rolex produced day wheels displaying 26 languages. This Rolex Day-Date 18038 features a Hebrew day wheel which is almost never seen as only a few were ever made. This elusive Day wheel is known as the rarest language to ever have been produced by Rolex and offered within the President line of watches.
