The Carrera was released the same year as the Daytona, and they are both named after famous races too – the Carrera for the extremely dangerous Carrera Panamericana race through Mexico, but the Carrera has many features that set it apart from its contemporaries.

Heuer’s Carrera line was designed with legibility in mind. The goal was to create a chronograph that was sleek and uncluttered. Heuer had patented a new steel tension ring to hold the crystal in place. In order to keep the dial as clean as possible, this ring was painted to feature the 1/5 second demarcations. This along with the basic baton markers helped to create the simple, minimal look Heuer had in mind. 

The Carrera ref. 1153 S was essentially Heuer’s little brother to the Autavia of the time, utilizing a more robust case than the  previous Carrera but ultimately a smaller case than the Autavia, which puts the ref. 1153 S in a sweet spot for wearability. The Carrera 1153 also features the same “opposing-crown” design as the Autavia due to the updated Cal. 12 automatic microtor movement. The Heuer Carrera has a rich racing history but the 1153 S is loved by automotive and watch enthusiasts alike, perfect for anyone who enjoys a beautiful chronograph wristwatch.

CASE & BRACELET 

The excellent case is believed to remain unpolished as it features sharp factory finishing and crisp lines with light signs of honest use. The fluted pushers and "Heuer" signed crown remain original to the watch. The original domed acrylic crystal does show some signs of use. The case back features the engraving "A Robert, 7-7-74" which is lightly faded from wear. The watch comes on its original Heuer signed Gay Freres "beads of rice" bracelet with rare HLC end pieces, which remains in exceptional condition. The bracelet retains 18 links that exhibit only very minimal stretch.

DIAL & HANDS

The silver sunburst dial with grey sub-dials and grey outer "Tachy" is in exceptionally well preserved condition, displaying almost no signs of age. The grey sub-dials remain in flawless condition. The tritium topped wide markers retains the original lume which has aged to a handsome light yellow coloration, under U.V. light inspection some of the lume plots exhibit very minor degradation. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and display no degradation.
