1972 Heuer Skipper (Ref. 15640) "Blue Dial" Mk. I
The Heuer Skipper, a fantastic tool watch produced and built for yacht racing, starring a large, colorful 15-minute counter for tracking the countdown start of a yacht race. The red, white, and blue sub-dial is divided into five-minute sections, each indicating a period in the lead up to a regatta to allow yacht pilots to gain every second of an edge.
The Heuer Skipper can be seen in a handful of variants over a spread of decades but resides as a very low production Heuer chronograph model within the Heuer timepiece lineup. Heuer acquired cases from other models for the Skipper since not many were produced. The original "Skippererra" used a Carrera case, and then the compressor-style straight lug Autavia cases were implemented. The last versions of the Heuer Skipper received the cushion-shaped Autavia case. We at Craft + Tailored love this Mk. CASE & BRACELET
The beautiful tonneau style case is in excellent condition, the case received a light polished in its past and retains strong dimensions, chamfers, and finishing. The original bidirectional ratcheting bezel blue bezel is in superb condition, showing no major signs of use or fading, and retains its tritium pearl at the 12 o'clock position. The case retains its original Heuer signed crown and fluted pump pushers. The case back shows no major signs of use or damage. The watch will come supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.
DIAL & HANDS
The gorgeous matte blue Mk. I dial is exceptionally well preserved showing no blemishes or signs of age. The large regatta count down sub-dial is in excellent condition, showing no damage or discoloration. The tritium-filled markers have taken on a lovely creamy patina and show no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. All of the hands are original to the watch and the original tritium hour and minute hands match the dial patina nicely, under U.V. light inspection the minute hand shows some minor cracking and remains stable, the hour hand shows no degradation.
