1971 Rolex Submariner (Ref. 5512) Service Dial

The Rolex Submariner Reference 5512 is the embodiment of the classic dive watch. The 5512 is simple yet sophisticated and rugged whilst becoming increasingly more uncommon and collectible. Ref 5512 was first introduced in the 1959 and ceased production in late 1978. The Ref. 5512 is a purpose built dive watch that lacks the date function like other Rolex Submariner models. (eg. Ref. 1680.)

Vintage Rolex 5513 Ad

This specific example from 1971 is joining the ranks of the more collectible. It said that for every five 5513 made in the 1970s one 5512 was made. This specific Ref. 5512 does have a service dial featuring LumiNova lume dots, but still retains its uniqueness  Interesting enough, Rolex made an abundance of era correct service dials without filling the lume, and added the lume later according to current regulations of the time of service which features a "feet first" depth rating within the 4 lines of text along with "Swiss-T < 25" at the bottom of the dial even though the dial contains LumiNova lume plots and hands.

The wonderful and thick case has been previously polished. The original Oyster "Flip- Lock" 93150 bracelet shoes some stretch from use and comes with the original 580 end links. The bezel insert is an early Rolex service insert that retains its LumiNova filled pearl.

DIAL & HANDS

The Rolex feet first matte black Luminova service dial is in immaculate condition. The Luminova creates and immersive contrast and an interesting modern take on an otherwise uncommon classic timepiece. The hands are also Rolex LumiNova and match the lume plots on the dial.
