1977 Rolex Day-Date 18k WG (Ref. 18039) Black Service Dial
The Rolex Day-Date is one of the most iconic and beautiful watches in the Rolex catalog. The Rolex Day-Date earned the nickname "President" after it had been rumored that President a Dwight Eisenhower began wearing one. In reality, Eisenhower wore a Rolex 18K yellow gold Oyster Perpetual Datejust which Rolex gifted to him in 1950. However the nickname President stuck and is quite fitting for the Day-Date as Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Ford, Reagan, Nixon and Roosevelt, all wore the Rolex Day-Date model. It has always been a symbol of status and luxury as the Rolex Day-Date is only made in precious metals most commonly 18k yellow gold and possesses both the day and date complications within the movement.
In 1977 Rolex updated the iconic Day-Date model aka the President by introducing Ref. 18038 which introduced some major changes to the Day-Date line of watches. The first of the major updates was the introduction of a sapphire crystal and a quick set date function aka the "single quick" which was the result of Rolex using a new movement, the Rolex caliber 3055. We love white gold watches as they carry the weight of solid 18k gold with a subtle statement and an extra level of refinement.

CASE & BRACELET
The previously polished 18K white gold case features even and symmetrical lugs that show only light signs of use. The 18K white gold fluted bezel has been lightly polished as well, and retains excellent shape and dimensions. The case retains its original white gold “two-dot” crown. The case back is polished. The 18K white gold Rolex President bracelet is slightly later and is in beautiful condition and retains 22 links with very little stretch.
DIAL & HANDS
The metallic black Rolex Service dial and hands create a handsome contrast with the white gold case. The dial does have a small mark right above the hand stack however it blends into the dial and isn’t very visible. The luminova lume plots and hands show no degradation.
ACCESSORIES
The watch was recently serviced and the watch is running at COSC spec. The watch comes backed by a 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
