N.O.S. 1994 Rolex Zenith Daytona (Ref. 16528) 18k YG Unpolished Box and Papers

This specific Rolex Zenith Daytona Ref. 16528 is in N.O.S (New Old Stock) condition and was sourced from the original owner who purchased the watch new from a Rolex authorized dealer in 1996. The original owner by his memory stated that he wore the watch only 2 times then placed the watch in his safety deposit box where it sat untouched for the next 22 years. This history is evident in the N.O.S condition and rosy patina that has developed. Additionally, the original owner kept the original Rolex inner and outer boxes, paperwork, hang tag, accessories and Rolex polishing cloth together with the piece making this a complete time capsule of an example. The original green Rolex caseback sticker is still affixed to the caseback making this not only exceptionally rare but also an ultimate example of the reference.

Rolex Zenith Daytona Ref. 16528

The Rolex Daytona model, since its initial release, has been at the forefront of the market as the most desirable chronograph in production. Prior to the introduction of the Zenith movement, all previous Rolex chronographs were a manual wind, and not until 1988 did Rolex release the Ref. 16500, which features an automatic "self-winding" movement for their headliner sports watch. Rolex decided to outsource for their movement in this reference using the Zenith 400 movement originally manufactured for the "Zenith El-Primero. They used this movement as the basis then fortified it, performing approximately 200 modifications to the base movement to meet the prestigious expectations of the Wilsdorf group. This created the workhorse Rolex 4030 movement that was put in production for an era of 12 years. In this reference Rolex also incorporated the more resilient sapphire crystals, being a contributing factor to the increased depth rating guaranteed at 100m or 330ft.

CASE & BRACELET

The 18k yellow gold case remains in factory and unpolished condition just as it would have left the factory in 1994. The green caseback sticker is still firmly affixed to the unpolished caseback. The Rolex Oyster 78398  Bracelet with 103 solid end pieces shows no stretch whatsoever and retains all factory links. The bezel is sharp, and like the rest of the piece, in factory condition. Both the watch and the bracelet have achieved a rosy patina from being stored.

DIAL & HANDS

The stunning champagne dial with its black subdials is flawless just as it would have left the factory. The tritium filled hands and lume plots have taken on a nice patina and show no lume loss or degradation.
