1950s Movado Kingmatic (Ref. 11179) "Borgel Case"
Movado released water-resistant wristwatches in the mid-1930s, by the early 1960s Movado was producing dive watches to contend with the era's greater-known offerings from names like Rolex, Omega, Heuer & Tudor.
The beautiful case featuring long, twisted lugs was created by the Borgel case company which were responsible for many iconic Patek Philippe case like the ref. 565, ref. 1463, and the ref. 2508. The sophisticated and classic Calatrava-style dial features dagger markers and charming dauphine-style hands that add to the unquestioned quality of this automatic winding Kingmatic, making for an incredibly stylish piece of Movado's long history of beautiful, simplified designs. This Art Deco-inspired piece bears the history of serious watchmaking while being modestly priced.

CASE & BRACELET
The perfectly balanced and proportioned Borgel-designed case is simply beautiful, featuring long, twisted lugs that greatly add to the overall presence of the watch. The case appears to be potentially lightly polished in the past however the lug holes remain crisp with the case dimensions and geometry remain crisp. The case retains its original crown which features the Movado "hand holding a clock" motif. The screw-down case back shows minimal signs of use and the watch will be supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.
DIAL & HANDS
The original dial is a classic Calatrava-style design, simple and sophisticated, featuring dagger markers and recessed outer minute marks. The dial itself shows gentle and aesthetically attractive aging that gives the dial an overall warm hue. The radium lume plots all remain intact and feature a dark patina, under U.V. light the 9 o'clock marker exhibits the most degradation with light degradation present in some of the other markers. The original dauphine-style hands have been professionally restored with lighter-colored lume to match the watch aesthetic.
ACCESSORIES
None. The watch was recently serviced and is keeping time perfectly, backed by a 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
