Tropical 1950s Movado Kingmatic (Ref. 11179) "Fancy Markers"

Movado released water-resistant wristwatches in the mid-1930s, by the early 1960s Movado was producing dive watches to contend with the era's greater-known offerings from names like Rolex, Omega, Heuer & Tudor.

The incredible long twisted lug case was created by the Borgel case company which were responsible for many iconic Patek Philippe case like the ref. 565, ref. 1463, and the ref. 2508. The stunning tropical dial features faceted “fancy” markers and charming dauphine-style hands that add to the unquestioned quality of this automatic winding Kingmatic, making for an incredibly stylish piece of Movado's long history of beautiful, simplified designs. This Art Deco-inspired piece bears the history of serious watchmaking while being modestly priced.

CASE & BRACELET

The case is simply stunning featuring long twisted lugs that add to the watch's overall size, the case has potentially been polished in the past however the lug holes remain crisp and the case dimensions remain fully intact. The unsigned crown is believed to remain original to the watch. The screw-down case back featured all its original factory markings in crisp and clean condition. The watch will come supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The original dial features intricate and beautiful faceted markers and has achieved a vibrant peach-colored tropical patina. The dial itself shows some light, but consistent spotting throughout. The original dauphine hands display some corrosion which is to be exptected.
