*Unpolished* 1960s AMF Voit Super Waterproof (Ref. 1573-666)

$ 4,250

This 1960s diving watch, the AMF Voit Super Waterproof Automatic, may have one of the most unconventional backgrounds for a Swiss watch we've ever seen. Voit was a Los Angeles based tire retreading company in 1922 that went on to develop and patent the first inflatable rubber balls in the later 1920s, which revolutionized sporting and the company quickly evolved into one of the largest sporting companies in the world. Voit was later acquired by AMF in 1957 and pivoted their expertise to recreational diving equipment.

AMF, or American Machine and Foundry, was a diverse conglomerate that is most known for inventing the automated bowling pinsetters and went on to create yachts, gardening tools, and diving equipment. AMF Voit contracted Schild & Co., a well-respected watchmaking house in Switzerland, to manufacture their wristwatches to be sold in their sporting goods stores.

There were a few different iterations of the AMF Voit diving watches and all of them are pretty elusive due to very small production batches, however, we love the ref. 1573 for its beautiful design characteristics and extravagant branding on the dial. The AMF Voit Super Waterproof Automatic ref. 1573-666 is a perfect companion for water sport and diving watch enthusiasts, and are not only rare but have an impressive and complex backstory as well.

CASE & BRACELET

The unpolished case is in exceptional condition, exhibiting minimal signs of use, strong factory finishing, and sharp case dimensions. The case back displays its factory brushing with its reference number and depth rating engravings in crisp and legible condition. The watch will come supplied on a 2pc rubber tropic strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The glossy black dial features the bold "AMF Voit" branding in gold paint and is accented beautifully by matching gold paint surrounding the date window and hour markers. The dial itself is remarkably well preserved and retains its glossy finish with only minimal aging throughout. The lume plots have aged to an excellent golden patina, further accenting the gold details of the watch, under U.V. light inspection all of the lume plots remain intact with a few showing very minimal degradation. The original gilt hands match the dial perfectly and show no degradation when inspected under U.V. light.
