Omega

1966 Omega Seamaster 300 (Ref. 165.024)

There is something about the early vintage Omega Seamasters that truly embodies the golden era of dive watches of the 1960-1970s. Omega has a long history and heritage in dive watches, which dates back to the 1930s.

The seahorse adorned case back of the Seamaster series pays tribute to Neptune, the Roman god of the sea. The seahorse logo was conceived by engraver Jean-Pierre Borle.  He was inspired by an image of Neptune driving a chariot pulled by seahorses, which is why the Omega seahorses are depicted wearing bridles.

The reference 165.024 has a specific feeling and look that centers it as one of the most desirable vintage Omega diving watches ever produced by the brand. The bi-directional luminous filled bakelite bezel paired with the high visibility 3-6-9 dial paired with the references overall larger size allows the 165.024 to remain relevant in today's sizing trends ultimately making it an icon. The Seamaster 300 references are becoming harder to find as collectors have started to gravitate towards the reference and as awareness increases around the iconic nature of the Omega Seamaster 300 references as a whole.

CASE & BRACELET

The previously lightly polished case remains very thick, showing little wear. The original bakelite "flat 1" bezel is in stunning condition, showing no cracking and very light wear. The watch will come supplied on a vintage style leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The beautiful matte dial is in wonderful vintage condition. The lume plots have aged to a unique dark green coloration. The original tritium lume, when inspected under U.V. light, shows light degradation. The original and period-correct hour and minute hands have been professionally restored with tritium to match the dial, the sweep seconds hand retains its original lume. The pinhole at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions is visible when viewed under a loupe.
