Rolex 1680 Vintage Ad

The Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 is a stunning classic. First introduced in 1966, the Ref. 1680 includes the date, unlike previous Submariners (ie. Ref. 5512 and 5513). The Infamous Red Submariner is also a Ref. 1680 which had the word "Submariner" in red lettering which was produced by Rolex from 1966-1973.

The Mark IV dial differentiates itself with the following which can be seen in the text located above the 6 o'clock – starting with a serial number that falls in the correct range for this type of dial. The red lettering on white and distinctive open “6” are the notable characteristics of the Mk. IV Dial. The Mk. IV was the earliest "feet first" red submariner.

This 1970 Rolex Red Submariner Ref. 1680 with Mk. IV dial is an excellent example, suitable for the collector that is obsessed with the little details. Perfectly worn in any situation from black tie to weekend casual.

CASE & BRACELET

The case was previously restored by LA Watch Works (LAWW) and shows thick lugs with strong chamfers and even lugs. The "fat-font bezel insert with long 5 has taken on a slight gray fade showing minimal wear and retains its tritium pearl, which matches the dial perfectly. The Rolex C+I stretch rivet bracelet is dated I-70 and is in wonderful condition with no stretch from use.

DIAL & HANDS

The black Mk. IV matte dial is in exquisite condition without blemishing or signs of wear. The tritium lume plots are a charming ivory coloration and exhibit no degradation under U.V. light inspection. The hands match the dial perfectly and were previously color matched by LA (LAWW)  Watch Works prior to our acquisition. The hands and the lume plots on the dial exhibit no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The metallic date wheel is era correct with open 6's and 9's.
