1988 Rolex Datejust (Ref. 16234) Grey Chapter Ring Dial W/ Box + Papers
The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and most beloved Rolex watches ever made, even though the Datejust was launched in 1945 it has remained a timeless classic and is instantly recognizable as an item of refined quality and functional design.
This specific 1988 Datejust Ref. 16234 is classic and clean and possesses a unique dial variant that possesses a "chapter ring" around the outer circumference of the dial that is seldom seen within the 16XXX reference range. Additionally, the dial text is printed in white over grey dial making the text and fonts appear to "jump" off the dial. The Datejust Ref. 16234 is somewhat transitional as unlike the previous models of Datejust, the Ref. 16234 was the first Rolex Datejust to possess a quickset date complication via the Rolex Caliber 3035 which enabled users to independently adjust the date display without also adjusting the hands displaying the time while also retaining an acrylic crystal which is desirable amongst the vintage Rolex collecting community.
This specific Rolex Datejust ref. 16234 retains a strong stainless steel case, accompanied by its original white gold fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. This example would make a great daily driver that would find itself suitable for almost any setting, casual to formal and would make a great start for a new vintage collector or be a great addition to an expanding collection.
