Persol is best known for its exceptional quality and Italian craftsmanship. Handmade in Lauriano Italy, the Persol brand focuses the highest quality materials, from crystal lenses to exclusive acetate frames. Persol was established in 1917 by Giuseppe Ratti and originally provisioned for pilots and sports drivers, who needed comfort and protection. Persol gained iconic pop culture status in the 1970s and 1980's when celebrities such as Steve McQueen, Robert De Niro, and Jack Nicholson began to wear the brand.
The Persol Model 649 was created in 1957 for tram drivers in Turin Italy who needed large glasses to protect their eyes against the air, snow, and dust. The novelty of its design made it a very successful pair of glasses, in 1961 they entered into legendary status when Marcello Mastroianni wore them in the film “Divorce Italian Style”.
