1966 Breitling Navitimer (Ref. 806) Gilt "Twin Jets" Portugiese Import Stamp

First introduced in 1954, the Breitling Navitimer was the direct successor to the 1942 Breitling Chronomat, and is truly something special when it comes to high-powered functionality in aviation watches. The Navitimer took the original slide rule bezel from the Chronomat and evolved it into a navigational computer for Pilots. This groundbreaking bezel can be used to calculate flight times, distance traveled, airspeed, ascent and descent rates, fuel-burning rates, and even has a metric conversion tool.

The very first Navitimer's housed a Valjoux 72 movement and were only available through the AOPA (Aircraft Owner and Pilot Association). However, this changed in 1956 when Breitling transitioned to a Venus cal. 178 chronograph movement and opened the ref. 806 to the general public for purchase. The "twin jets" logo was introduced onto the dial of the Navitimer in 1964 an became a brand staple shortly thereafter. The "twin jets" logo marks a transition for Brielting as it was the start of the modernization of the brand that gave way to numerous chronograph variations that all remain collectible today.

CASE & BRACELET

The strong case remains in excellent condition and is believed to remain unpolished, retaining its original factory geometry and showing honest signs of use. The original Portuguese importation stamp is displayed on the top left lug in a clear and visible fashion. The case retains its original "Breitling" signed crown and pump pushers. The case back retains its original factory engravings. The watch will come supplied on a 2pc nylon strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The glossy black gilt dial with silver sub-dials and silver "Twin Jets" logo and text is absolutely beautiful. The dial itself retains its mirrored finish with only light signs of aging around the markers, which is common for Navitimers. The sub-dials are in exceptional condition and remain bright silver in coloration. The outer slide rule bezel is bright, contrasting the dial nicely and remaining in excellent original condition. The tritium lume plots have achieved a wonderful vintage patina and show some light degradation under U.V. light inspection. The original tritium hands have aged slightly lighter than the dial but match the watches aesthetic perfectly, under U.V. light inspection the hands show no degradation.
