1968 Tudor Submariner (Ref. 7016/0) "Semi-PCG Case"

 Vintage Tudor Watch

The Tudor Submariner ref. 7928 was first introduced in 1960. The ref. 7928 is like the little brother to the Rolex 5513/5512 references as they share a lot of the same exact parts and although different they do share a lot of similar design elements.  An interesting fact is that the Rolex Submariner and the Tudor Submariner were actually developed at the same time and launched just a few months apart from each other. The Tudor Submariner ref. 7928 is just as handsome as the big brother Rolex 5512/5513 references but again possesses a unique charm and feeling that is uniquely Tudor!

The Tudor Submariner Reference 7016/0 was introduced in 1968 with quite a few changes compared to its predecessor reference 7928. Not only did the 7016/0 bring us the famous "Snowflake" dial and hands configuration, and the movement was upgraded to an ETA 2483, but the case was changed as well. The early 7016/0 Tudor subs feature was is known among collectors as a Semi-PCG or semi pointed crown guard case, this is in reference to the very different crown guard shape produced for the 7016/0 in the early half of 1968, the crown guards are not necessarily "pointed" like early PCG cases for both Rolex and Tudor, however, they do have a much more slender appearance to the more modern style seen after and are sloped up to a smaller rounded point, hence the Semi-PCG name. These cases are only produced in a short range of serial numbers as the Semi-PCG case production was short-lived and was replaced at the end of 1968.

CASE & BRACELET

The full and symmetrical semi-pointed crown guard case has been lightly polished in the past and retains thick lugs and crown guards. The "fat font insert" is exceptional, showing almost no signs of previous use, the pearl at the 12 o'clock position remains intact though the tritium is no longer present. The trip lock crown is an early service replacement. The Rolex "U.S.A. Made" C+I Oyster rivet stretch bracelet was sourced with the watch and is stamped 7-66 and is in excellent condition, retaining 11 links that sho no stretch from use.

DIAL & HANDS

The impressive dial is in factory flawless condition, showing no blemishes or signs of age. The tritium lume plots have aged to a handsome creamy golden coloration, under U.V. light inspection the dial exhibits no degradation. The original hands contain matching tritium lume and show no degradation under U.V. light inspection.
