1971 Rolex Red Submariner (Ref. 1680) "Mk. IV"
The Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 is a stunning classic. First introduced in 1969, the ref. 1680 includes the date, unlike previous Submariners (ie. Ref. 5512 and 5513). The infamous Red Submariner is also a ref. 1680 which has the word "Submariner" in red lettering and was produced by Rolex from 1969-1975.
The Mk IV dial differentiates itself with the following, which can be seen in the text located above the 6 o'clock – starting with a serial number that falls in the correct range for this type of dial. The red lettering on white and distinctive open “6” are the notable characteristics of the Mk. IV Dial. The Mk. IV was the earliest "feet first" Red Submariner.

CASE & BRACELET
The previously lightly polished case retains full lugs that show light signs of honest use. The bezel insert is an early service Mk III "thin font" bezel that exhibits almost no signs of use and retains its tritium pearl which has aged to match the dial patina perfectly. The later Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 580 end pieces retains 11 links that show light stretch and will fit up to a 7 1/2-inch wrist.
DIAL & HANDS
The very presentable matte black Red Submariner "Mk IV" dial is in beautiful vintage condition, showing only gentle signs of age that are only nominal in nature. The tritium lume plots have achieved a stunning creamy yellow patina and exhibit no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly, under U.V. light inspection the hour hand shows very subtle cracking that remains stable with no actual lume loss, and the minute and sweep-second's hands show no degradation. The metallic date wheel is original with open 6's and 9's.
ACCESSORIES
None. The watch was recently serviced and is keeping time perfectly, backed by a 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
