*Unpolished* 2000 Rolex Submariner (Ref. 14060) "P-Serial" W/ Box & Papers
The ref. 14060 Rolex Submariner was introduced in 1990 as the new and improved version of its long-running predecessor, the legendary 5513. The 14060 featured a number of improvements from the 5513, including an increased depth rating to 300m or 1000 ft, a sapphire crystal, a 904L stainless steel case, and the upgraded cal. 3000 Rolex movement. We believe the 14060 was designed with the purest in mind with a simple, no-nonsense design, and retaining a lot of the aesthetics and elements that make the earlier no-date Submariners so desirable and great.
The earlier 14060 Submariner examples feature tritium lume dials, which have become very desirable due to the vintage appeal and wonderful lume coloration changes that can happen. The tritium dials were replaced in 1999/1999 with super-luminova, making for a small 8-year production cycle for these Tritium 14060 models. The 14060 continued in production until 2000 when it was replaced by the 14060M reference.
The 14060 is, for many, the perfect cross between old and new. With modern advancements and a more classic design, the 14060 Rolex Submariner is a versatile wristwatch for pretty much every situation.
Similar to the highly coveted Zenith-era Daytona with its “P” serial, the final series of the Rolex Submariner ref. 14060 also appeared with a P-series case number. Unlike the Daytona, however, these late-production Submariners remain far less discussed, yet are in fact much rarer. In 2000, only a small number of ref. 14060s fitted with the cal. 3000 movement left Rolex before the introduction of the upgraded ref. 14060M that same year. As a result, these transitional P-series 14060s mark the very last examples of the reference—exceptionally scarce and highly desirable among collectors.
