IWC Steel Calatrava Cal. 83 W/ Articulated Lugs
The movement that transitioned IWC from pocket watches to wristwatches, the Cal. 83 is the lesser known but highly influential manual wind IWC in-house movement that debuted in 1939. Much like the more documented Cal. 89, the Cal. 83 was used in dress pieces and an incabloc was created for the military Mark X watch.
This fascinating Cal. 83 model features an oversized case with elongated lugs that articulate for a more ergonomic fit around the wrist, an unconventional and attractive design that would only come from this era. Additionally, the silver dial with black Breguet numerals is almost just as impressive as the case!
|2pc Lizard Leather Strap
The overall case condition of this IWC Calatrava is truly impressive, with no major signs of use present. The unique articulating lugs function perfectly and remain fully intact. The snap-on case back is also very well preserved. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc brown lizard strap.
The gorgeous two-toned silver dial features large Breguet numerals and a subtle railroad-style minute track and is in beautiful vintage condition, wearing its age perfectly with warm tones throughout. The seconds sub-dial is oversized and in very clean condition. The blued steel hands are also original to the watch and in excellent condition.
None. The watch is keeping time, previous service history is unknown.
