This Seiko ref. 6217-8000, more commonly known as the 62MAS, is the very first Seiko dive watch ever produced and it occupies an incredibly important role within the brand’s overall history Within two shot months the small crown of the 8000 was replaced by the famous "Big Crown" of the 6217-8001. First launched in 1965, the Seiko 62MAS was the brand’s original debut in the underwater world, and it served as the foundation for countless other Seiko dive watches that would be released during the years that followed. With its utilitarian appearance, highly legible dial, and clean case shape without crown guards, the Seiko Diver 62MAS embodies everything that we love about early dive watches.

CASE & BRACELET

The 37-millimeter stainless steel case is in fantastic condition, especially for a 55-year-old sports watch. The edges are sharp and drastic, and the crown teeth offer as much grip as when it left the factory. While the bezel shows its age and wear, it has also taken on a beautiful grey coloring and the lume dot at 12 has turned a gorgeous shade of honey. Naturally, this Seiko diver also features a signed screw-down case back and for maximum comfort is accompanied by a 2-piece black rubber strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The dial is a deep and shining dark silver with large rectangular hour makers and white outer minute track. It's gained some light spotting and oxygenation but overall has retained its rugged beauty as well as every drop of tritium in both its markers and its hands.

ACCESSORIES

None. The watch is running and functioning correctly, previous service history is unknown.
