Vacheron Constantin

*Rare* 1960s Vacheron Constantin Turnograph (Ref. 6782) "Porcelain Dial"

1976 Vacheron Constantin Royal Chronometre (Ref. 2215) W/ Extract From The Archives

Vacheron Constantin has never contained itself to being a single type of watchmaker. Since their creation in 1755, the Swiss watchmaking house has set out to push the horological boundaries. These hyper-rare Vacheron Constantin "Turnographs" (ref. 6782) were produced from 1962-1972 and are seen as oddities to vintage watch experts as they were unlike anything else VC was creating at the time. Although the ref. 6782 was in production for about 10 years, it is said that fewer than 100 of these were ever produced by Vacheron Constantin. The ref. 6782 were also exclusively powered by the VC inhouse K1072/1 calibre movement which was the first Vacheron Constantin movement to receive the 'Poiçon de Geneve' seal.

The "Turnograph" nickname comes from its similarities and resemblance to the well known Rolex Turnograph Datejusts models, also known as "Thunderbirds". These watches both feature dials that display the date window at the 3 o'clock position, have bidirectional bezels, and water-resistant screw-down case backs. However, by the production time of the 6782, Rolex was already making a name for itself as a sports watch manufacturer. Some would argue that the ref. 6782 was VC's first, but unofficial, sports watch predating the famous Overseas.

The ref. 6782 can feature a variety of unique dials variants however the majority have silver or champagne color dials. This Vacheron Constantin ref. 6782 houses a highly unique and very rare dial consisting of white porcelain and gold block markers with black inlays.
