1950s Heuer Pre-Carrera Chronograph (Ref. 3336) "Decimeter"

Before Heuer introduced their iconic classics of the '60s and '70s, such as the famous Autavia, Carrera, and Monaco, the brand was a force in the horological sector of sports chronographs and timing equipment.

The Heuer Chronograph ref. 3336 also referred to as a "Pre-Carrera", it's safe to say how this model got this nickname as it shares many similarities with its younger sibling. Though with slightly larger proportions and less utilitarian stylings. The ref. 3336 employs a Valjoux Cal. 22 chronograph movement with a 37mm case and features elegant dagger markers and dauphine hands that would be more characteristic of a dress model from the era. It makes sense why Heuer updated the Carrera to fit the racing archetype of the model, however, the cross-pollination of elegance and functionality executed by the Pre-Carrera models is deserving of just as much love for being a truly handsome and unique group of watches.

CASE & BRACELET

The excellent and large-for-the-era case features subtle elements of previous polishing and light wear, though the lugs retain strong chamfers and factory dimensions throughout. The case retains its original pump pushers, the unsigned crown is likely an early replacement. The screw-down case back remains in great overall condition, showing only gentle wear. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The original satin silver dial exhibits some gentle aging in the form of warm color hues and light spotting, achieving a beautiful vintage aesthetic throughout. The blue decimal track adds a vibrant pop of color and remains in excellent condition. The radium lume plots have aged to a dark patina and exhibit subtle but expected degradation throughout. The original radium hands match the dial almost perfectly with no degradation present. The painted blue center chronograph hand adds a subtle enhancement to the vibrancy of the watch and is original to the watch, though it is very uncommon to see.
