1964 Rolex Oyster Precision (Ref. 6424) Gilt Dial "36mm Case"

We at Craft+Tailored love the anomalies within vintage Rolex, whether it be an odd dial variant, a rare bracelet, or a reference with unique case details, the “Crown” always finds new ways to keep us interested. The ref. 6424 is certainly one of these anomalies, the manual wind Oyster Precision boasts an oversized 36mm case that features long, broad lugs, but the oddest characteristic of this case is the absence of lug holes, a detail most commonly seen in Rolex precious metal watches. The ref. 6424 is not only unique but it is impressively handsome and very versatile, making for a perfect everyday watch.

CASE & BRACELET

The excellent non-drilled lugs case appears to have been gently polished in the past and retains very thick and symmetical lugs that show light signs of previous use. The smooth stianless steel bezel exhibits minimal signs of use. The case back is also is excellent shape with only gentle signs of use as well. The watch comes supplied on a Rolex "U.S.A. Made" Jubilee bracelet that retains 22 links which show moderate stretch from use and will fit up to an 8-inch wrist.

DIAL & HANDS

The glossy black gilt dial is absolutely stunning and give the wearer a sleek and sophisticated look on wrist. The dial retains its mirror-like glossy finish and is in excellent overall condition, showing some light marks from age but no major damage. There is also some subtle spots where the black color has turned to a very dark brown color, mainly towards the botom of the dial, though we wouldn't consider this dial tropical, yet. The original tritiu lume plots all remain inact with only light degradation present in some of the plots, namely the 11 o'clock plot. the original alpha hands are missing the majority of their lume.
