1970 OMEGA SPEEDMASTER MARK II 145.014 (CAL. 861)

In 1969, the same year we set foot on the moon, OMEGA introduced a new-look to the Speedmaster Professional via the Speedmaster Mark II, a timepiece with a streamlined case to fit the design trends of the upcoming 1970s. The Speedmaster Mark II came with the same Lemania based movement as the original Speedmaster Professional "Moonwatch", reference 145.022, Omega’s original caliber 861 movement, but unlike the Speedmaster Professional, the Speedmaster Mark II has a barrel shaped case giving it a different look from the standard Speedmaster Professional case worn by the NASA Astronauts.

The classic Tachymetre that the Speedmaster is known for is also different in that it is under the mineral glass crystal and is not externally located on the outside of the crystal as an external bezel, as seen on the Speedmaster Professional. The design idea for this is that the Tacymetre is protected from scratches or disruption being under the mineral glass crystal which was also a new introduction for omega as the previous line of Speedmasters were equipped with a hesalite crystal or "plastic" crystal.

This specific example is very special due to the fact that it retains its original dial, hands, and unpolished case back...

This piece is in stunning condition and would make it a great addition to a growing collection or as a stand-alone daily driver that possesses the timeless and classic looks and functionality that makes the Speedmaster Professional based timepieces so great!
