1967 Rolex Daytona 6240 "Paul Newman Exotic Dial"

If you ask a vintage watch collector what their "Holy Grail Watch" would be, many would answer without a stutter the Rolex Paul Newman Daytona." Perhaps the most important watch and dial configuration when considering vintage Rolex, or Rolex in general. Known today to be one of the most prestigious and valuable watches ever produced by Rolex. The Rolex Daytona exotic dial received its name the "Paul Newman", after the famed actor and then racecar driver Paul Newman chose a Rolex 6239 Daytona with exotic Panda Dial configuration as his personal watch.

In October of 2017, Paul Newman's personal Rolex exotic Ref. 6239 was auctioned by Phillips auction house in NYC for $17.75M making it the most expensive and iconic wristwatch ever sold.

The Rolex Daytona Ref 6240 was initially produced as a prototype and the reference 6240 stands out from 6239/41 by featuring screw-down pushers which is the first time this feature was implemented onto a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona and is thus the first waterproof Rolex Daytona. The Rolex Daytona 6240 was in limited production from 1965 until around 1969 with the Paul Newman examples specifically bearing a 1.6M serial number.

We love the vintage Cosmograph range due to the fact that they have a high level of contrast which is something the modern Rolex Daytona range of timepieces has lost due to the completely monochromatic look of the dials found on today modern reference range.
