1971 Rolex Datejust (Ref. 1601) Grey Dial
The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and most beloved Rolex watches ever made. Launched in 1945, it has remained a timeless classic, instantly recognizable as an item of advanced quality and functional design. The Datejust’s exemplary style makes it an extremely versatile choice, worn just as easily with a suit as with jeans and a t-shirt. The Datejust would make a wonderful starting point for a new vintage collector and is always a great addition to an expanding collection.
This specific 1971 Datejust Ref. 1601 retains its original Grey "pie-pan" stick marker dial and is in excellent condition with its original Jubilee bracelet and white gold fluted bezel. This piece would make a great start for a new vintage collector, or be a great addition to an expanding collection. We love the early Rolex Datejust for its simplicity and its classic sophistication.

The excellent case features signs of only minimal previous polishing and retains thick and symmetrical lugs that show gentle signs of use. The original white gold fluted bezel has achieved a beautiful warmth from oxidation that gives the watch a uniquely distinct appearance. The original Rolex 6251H bracelet with 55 end pieces retains 23 links that show normal stretch for the style and age of the bracelet and will fit up to a 7 1/2-inch wrist.
The beautiful and unique grey sunburst "pie-pan" dial exhibits some minor elements of age at the very edge of the dial and some subtle spotting at the bottom of the dial. The tritium lume plots all remain fully intact when inspected under U.V. light and feature a dark patina to the right of the dial and a golden patina on the left of the dial. The original tritium hands match the creamy golden patina on the left side of the dial and exhibit no degradation under U.V. light inspection. The metallic date wheel is original with open 6's and 9's.
