1972 Rolex Day-Date 18K YG "Bark" (Ref. 1807) Matte Blue "Minute Track" Dial

The Rolex Day-Date is one of the most iconic and beautiful watches in the Rolex catalog. The Rolex Day-Date earned the nickname "President" after it was rumored President Dwight Eisenhower wore one, but Eisenhower actually wore a Rolex 18K yellow gold Oyster-Perpetual Datejust which Rolex gifted to him in 1953. However, the nickname "President" is quite fitting for the Day-Date as Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Ford, Reagan, Nixon, and Roosevelt, all wore the Rolex Day-Date. Apart from its executive affiliation, the Day-Date is a symbol of status and luxury, only produced in highly refined precious metals including 18K yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, and also platinum, featuring both the day and date complications within the movement.

CASE & BRACELET

The excellent 18K yellow gold case retains thick, symmetrical, and crisp lugs that exhibit minimal evidence of previous polishing and gentle signs of honest use. The 18K yellow gold Bark bezel appears to remain unpolished with the original integrity of the unique finishing on full display and in crisp condition, with only nominal signs of use present. The 18K yellow gold president bracelet with matching Bark finish is in impressive condition and retains 20 links that show minimal stretch and will fit up to an 8-inch wrist.

DIAL & HANDS

The original matte blue "pie-pan" dial features a striking white minute track and white text for an overall very attractive and legible presentation. The dial is in very well-preserved condition with the only elements of age present being only nominal in nature. The tritium lume plots all remain mostly present but do exhibit consistent degradation throughout when inspected under UV light. The original tritium gold hands match the dial perfectly, under UV light inspection the minute hand displays some very minor lume loss and remains stable while the hour hand remains fully intact. The metallic gold date wheel is original with "open" 6's and 9's.
