1973 Rolex Red Submariner Ref. 1680 W/ Original Sales Receipt (Mk. IV Dial)

Rolex 1680 Vintage Ad

The Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680 is a stunning classic. First introduced in 1969, the Ref. 1680 includes the date, unlike previous Submariners (ie. Ref. 5512 and 5513). The Infamous Red Submariner is also a Ref. 1680 which had the word "Submariner" in red lettering which was produced by Rolex from 1969-1975.

The Mark IV dial differentiates itself with the following which can be seen in the text located above the 6 o'clock – starting with a serial number that falls in the correct range for this type of dial. The red lettering on white and distinctive open “6” are the notable characteristics of the Mk. IV Dial. The Mk. IV was the earliest "feet first" red submariner.

This specific Red Submariner is in very good overall condition piece would make a versatile daily driver in a casual setting or would look great paired with a suit. This specific example also retains its original receipt of purchase from Friedmans Jewelers of Mobile, Alabama for $471.71 in May of 1975 making this a highly desirable collector's item. The Ref. 1680 is an all-around wonderful sports watch, and would make a nice addition to an existing collection, or would be a unique stand-alone vintage piece.
