*Mint* 1977 Rolex Datejust 18K YG (Ref. 1601) Black "Confetti" Dial

The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and most beloved Rolex watches ever made, even though the Datejust was launched in 1945 it has remained a timeless classic and is instantly recognizable as an item of refined quality and functional design. The Datejust can be worn just as easily with a suit as it can be with jeans and a tee-shirt. The Datejust would make a great start for a new vintage collector, or be a great addition to an expanding collection.

The multi-colored "confetti" dials are coveted among collectors, not only for the sheer rarity of these dials but also for the subtle yet vibrant details that are truly unique amongst Rolex dials as a whole. The term "confetti" is in reference to the compilation of individual colors that make up the single base color of the dial, creating a colorful and speckled dial appearance when observed up close.

CASE & BRACELET

The unpolished and virtually unworn 18K yellow gold case retains all of its factory finishes, only showing some minor storage marks and swirling in the metal that is consistent with the watches age. The gold has achieved a varying degree of color changes from oxidation throughout, but is most prevalent on the back of the case. The unpolished 18k yellow gold fluted bezel is original and unpolished as well and features a spot of purple oxidation at the 5 o'clock position that is congruent with the mid case. The unpolished case back retains its original and still waxed Rolex case back sticker. The original black Rolex strap remains in unworn condition and retains an original gold plaque Rolex buckle to match.

DIAL & HANDS

The rare and exceptional matte black "pie pan" confetti dial consists of blue, red, green, and white speckling that compose the black texture. The confetti colors are very obvious and vivd in this dial. The lume plots have taken on a handsome creamy patina and exhibit no degradation under U.V. light inspection. The original tritium yellow gold hands match the dial perfectly with no degradation to the lume present under U.V. light magnification, the hands show a few spots of oxidation which is expected for the watches age. The metallic date wheel is original with open 6's and 9's.
