1978 Rolex Datejust (Ref. 16000) White "Buckley" Dial W/ Pumpkin Patina
What is a Buckley dial? These excellent Roman numeral marker dials differentiate themselves as true collector items with painted numerals as opposed to the more commonly seen applied marker, along with matching black hands. The Buckley dials were made famous after a Rolex collector coined the term several years back.
One of the largest evolutions for the Rolex Datejust model lineup was at the end of the 1970s with the introduction of the first "flat dial" Datejust. These models introduced upgraded bracelets, and the movement was vastly upgraded to the Rolex cal. 3035 quick-set movement. These Datejust variations are often referred to as being transitional, as they still feature the more classic acrylic crystals and tritium lume, whilst housing many advancements.

CASE & BRACELET
The excellent case retains very thick and symmetrical lugs, which display only nominal evidence of prior polishing and show honest signs of use. The stainless steel engine turned bezel is in wonderful condition, featuring crisp finishing and light wear. The original Rolex 78360 oyster bracelet with 558 end pieces retains 13 links that show very minimal stretch and will fit up to a 7.75-inch wrist.
DIAL & HANDS
The original matte white "Buckley" dial with painted Roman numerals is in exceptional, virtually perfect vintage condition, with no damage or notable age present. The tritium lume plots have achieved a vibrant orange or "pumpkin" patina and exhibit no degradation when inspected under UV light. The black "Buckley" hands are original to the watch and retain lume that matches the dial patina almost perfectly. Under UV light inspection, the minute hand appears to have been professionally restored with tritium to match the watch's patina, while the hour hand retains its original tritium lume. The white date wheel is original with "open" 6 and 9 numerals.
