This specific 1979 Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 is in absolutely stunning condition and retains its original Mk. II MAXI dial. The MAXI II dial is commonly seen in the 5 mil and early 6 mil stamped cases and was introduced in 1978. This was the first time that “SUBMARINER” would be printed above the depth rating in a matte dial.

There are several features of the Maxi II Dial that are distinct:

  • The lack of serif in the depth rating
  • The “=” sign is placed directly below and in the middle of the “A” in “SUBMARINER”
  • A normal “S” rather than the “zig-zag S” in “SUBMARINER” as seen in the Maxi I and Maxi IV Dials

CASE & BRACELET

The excellent case has been polished in the past to retain strong chamfers, finishing, and lug holes with light signs of use. The bezel insert is an early service replacement and shows no signs of use, remains deep black in coloration, and retains its tritium pearl at the 12 o'clock which matches the dial nicely. The original Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 580 end pieces shows minor stretch from use and retains 12 links.

DIAL & HANDS

The matte black MAXI Mk. II Submariner dial is in excellent and original condition, showing no real signs of aging or imperfections. The large MAXI tritium lume plots have achieved a wonderful ivory patina, and exhibit no degradation under U.V. light inspection. The original hands have been professionally restored with tritium to match the dial.

ACCESSORIES

None. The watch is keeping time and is functioning perfectly, previous service history is unknown.
