1982 Rolex Submariner (Ref. 5513) Mk. V MAXI
The Rolex Submariner Reference 5513 is the embodiment of the classic dive watch. The 5513 is simple yet sophisticated and rugged The Ref. 5513 was first introduced in 1962 and ceased production in late 1989. The Ref. 5513 is a purpose-built dive watch that lacks the date function like other Rolex Submariner models. (eg. Ref. 1680.)
The Rolex Submariner Maxi V Dial is seen in cases in the 7 mil to 8 mil range and was the last dial variant for the 5513 before the late 1984 transition into the glossy dials with white gold surrounds. The features of the Maxi V Dial include some characteristics in common with the Maxi II, III, and IV Dials in that the “SUBMARINER” text is printed above the depth rating but the Maxi MK V Dial differentiates itself due to the fact that the “SUBMARINER” text is longer than the depth rating below it.
Other features include:
- “open 6’s”
- a lack of serif in the depth rating
- the “=” sign is directly below and in the middle of the letter “A” in “SUBMARINER”
- “SUBMARINER” written on top and longer in length than the depth rating.

CASE & BRACELET
The lightly polished case retains full and even lugs with light signs of use. The era-correct "fat-font" bezel insert has achieved a handsome navy blue coloration that is most obvious in the sunlight and retains its tritium pearl at the 12 o'clock position which has taken on a darker patina than the dial. The era-correct Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet is in excellent condition, retaining 12 links and showing some light signs of use with very little stretch. The 501B end pieces were sourced on the watch.
Dial & Hands
The original matte black MAXI Mk. V dial is remarkable, showing no imperfections. The tritium lume plots have aged to an excellent creamy coloration and exhibit no degradation under U.V. light inspection. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and show no degradation when inspected with U.V. light.
ACCESSORIES
None. The watch is keeping time and functioning perfectly, previous service history is unknown.
