1984 Tudor Submariner (Ref. 94010) "Lollipop" W/ Box & Papers

The Rolex/Tudor relationship dates back to 1926 when Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex SA, wanted to create a more affordable alternative. Tudor manufactured Submariners adjacent to the Rolex submariner for many many years. In 1954, the year following the release of Rolex's Submariner, Tudor released their first Submariner as an affordable alternative that didn't lack in quality or craftsmanship yet leveraged a non-inhouse Rolex movement.

Although Tudor made Submariner references containing the "Snowflake" dial well into the mid-1980s, in 1978 Tudor introduced a new dial format of the Oyster Prince Submariner which included round and triangular indexes as seen on this ref. 94010 and also the subsequent references. Ultimately this new dial format would replace the "Snowflake" configuration and would last well into the late 1990s on the Tudor Submariner line of timepieces.

This would make a great addition to a growing collection or be a great first piece as it retains the classic and timeless look of the Submariner while being unique as a result of the original Tudor design elements.

CASE & BRACELET

The excellent case has been gently polished in the past and retains full chamfers through the thick and symmetrical lugs with honest signs of gentle use present. The original Mk III "thin font" insert is in excellent condition, showing almost no signs of use, and retains its tritium pearl which has aged to a golden patina. The case retains its original Rolex trip-lock crown. The case back exhibits light wear and retains all of its original factory markings in crisp condition. The Tudor 9315 folded-link oyster bracelet with 380 end pieces is era-correct for the watch but dates to 1990 so it is likely a service replacement. The bracelet retains 13 links that show minimal stretch and will fit up to a 8 1/4-inch wrist.

DIAL & HANDS

The original matte black dial is flawless, showing no damage or age. The tritium lume plots feature a lovely eggshell color and exhibit no degradation when inspected under UV light. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly, under UV light inspection the "lollipop" hour hand exhibits some minor cracking which is very common for this hand style, and remains stable, the minute and seconds hands show no degradation.

ACCESSORIES

The watch comes complete with its original inner and outer boxes, Tudor guarantee paper with handwritten serial, Tudor document booklet, translation papers, Rolex anchor, and a non-serialized Tudor hang tag. The watch is keeping time, but the service history is unknown. A movement service can be provided upon request.
