1986 Rolex Two-Tone GMT-Master (Ref. 16753)

The Rolex GMT is the jet-setting icon of the Rolex sports watch family. Like the Rolex Submariner, the Rolex GMT is sophisticated, rugged, and versatile. In 1954 Pan Am started using the newly designed Boeing 707 which allowed for Pan Am to fly transcontinentally and is said to have started the commercially available jet age. In the same year, Rolex received a request from Pan Am to create a technical pilot's watch which indicated two time zones simultaneously that could be issued by the airline to their crews on long-haul transcontinental international flights.

CASE & BRACELET

The superb mid-case is believed to remain unpolished as the factory finishing remains crisp with pronounced chamfers and honest signs of light use. The 18k yellow gold bezel is in excellent condition as well and retains its shape. The original bezel insert has faded to an obvious and handsome blue coloration and shows light signs of use. The case back does show evidence of a minor polish in the past, likely to remove an engraving. The original Rolex 62523H 18 two-tone Jubilee bracelet with 450 end pieces retains 21 links that show light stretch from use, which is common for two-tone Jubilees from this era.

DIAL & HANDS

The glossy black dial with yellow gold surround markers is remarkably well preserved, retaining its glossy finish with no blemishes or marks. The tritium lume plots have aged to an attractive golden coloration and exhibit no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and display no degradation under U.V. light inspection. The date what wheel is correct with open 6's and 9's.
