1990s IWC Flieger Chronograph (Ref. 3706) W/ Box & Papers

IWC has a long history of creating purpose-built timepieces, but more specifically, pilot’s watches. It’s arguably what IWC is best known for. This ref. 3706 IWC “Fliegerchronograph”, or Pilot’s Chronograph, was first introduced by IWC in 1994, and some say this is the reference from IWC that reignited the pilot’s watch craze in the mid-1990s. The 39mm case houses the robust and accurate Valjoux 7750 movement. It features a day and date complication, traditional Flieger hands reminiscent of those on the Mk XI, a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and anti-magnetic properties. The earlier models also have tritium hands and markers, which adds to the vintage feel. Even with the modest 39mm size and 3-register dial, it is still very legible.

CASE & BRACELET

The robust, utilitarian case displays honest wear throughout, while retaining very thick, symmetrical lugs that show nominal evidence of being previously polished. The "fish logo" screw-down crown and reverse-style pushers remain original to the watch. The case back retains all of the factory markings in crisp and deep condition, with light wear present. The original IWC stainless steel bracelet is a pure work of art and retains 21 links that display minimal stretch and will fit up to a 7.25-inch wrist. The watch comes with 1 additional bracelet link as well.

DIAL & HANDS

The matte black is flawless, with no age or damage present. The lume on the dial and hands has achieved a lovely matching golden patina, and neither displays degradation under UV light inspection.
