2001 Ikepod Seaslug GMT (Ref. S01d) W/ Box, Papers, & Extra Straps

Marc Newson is widely regarded as one of the most influential industrial designers of his generation. His multidisciplinary work spans everything from technology and transportation to fashion and luxury goods, with a client list that includes some of the world’s most prestigious brands. His designs have earned a place in the permanent collections of major institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Smithsonian Design Museum.

In 1994, Newson co-founded Ikepod alongside Oliver Ike, creating a watch brand that quickly earned cult status for its bold, futuristic aesthetic. Characterized by their saucer-like, minimalist forms, Ikepod watches helped pioneer the trend of oversized cases in the late '90s and early 2000s. Produced in limited quantities and crafted from materials such as gold, silver, steel, platinum, and titanium, each Ikepod model straddles the line between industrial design and horological art. One of the brand’s signature pieces, the Hemipode, features a monocoque (single-shell) construction with a super-thin bezel that unscrews from the front—granting movement access from the dial side rather than the case back, a rare feat in watch design.

Among Ikepod's standout creations is the Seaslug S01D, a dive watch that blends sculptural minimalism with robust utility. With its fluid case design, clean dial layout, and ergonomically integrated strap, the Seaslug is a prime example of Newson's ability to fuse form and function. The S01D in particular features a brushed stainless steel case, luminous markers, and a screw-down crown, making it as capable underwater as it is striking on land. Notably, it also incorporates a GMT function, allowing the wearer to track a second time zone—an added layer of practicality for frequent travelers and design-forward adventurers alike. Like all Ikepods, the Seaslug is a bold expression of modernist design in watchmaking.

The case retains its original unsigned crown located at the 2 o'clock position. The original stainless steel bracelet retains 13 links that show almost no stretch and minimal wear. The bracelet will fit up to a 7.25-inch wrist, and the watch also comes with two additional Ikepod rubber straps.

DIAL & HANDS

The matte black dial features unique recessed white markers to accomplish a very space-age aesthetic. The dial itself is flawless, showing no age or damage. The tritium lume has achieved a handsome creamy patina that matches through the dial and hands. Under UV light inspection, no lume degradation is present.
