2005 Rolex Explorer I (Ref. 114270)
The Rolex Explorer was first introduced after the Everest expedition of 1953. The first officially branded Rolex Explorer was the Rolex Ref. 6350 which bears a similar reference to the modern Ref.11420 that we are featuring here at Craft & Tailored. The 3-6-9 dial rolex explorers are more commonly referred to as the Explorer I as the draw inspiration for the early Rolex Explorer references.
The Rolex Explorer I references bridge the gap between a dress watch and a sport watch as they possess a smooth bezel, the lack of crown guards, and the rotating bezels more commonly found on the sport models of watches offered by Rolex. But with that being said the Rolex explorer references possess highly visible block indices and Rolex Submariner style hands more commonly found on the sport line of Rolex watches. And don't let the lack of a rotating bezel or the lack of crown guards fool you... The Ref.114270 is built like a tank. The watch possess a twin lock crown which yields a water resistance rating of up to 100m/300ft, a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, and a solid Rolex Oyster bracelet with flip lock.
The Rolex Explorer I (Ref. 114270) would make a great addition to an existing collection and offers the utmost versatility as a stand alone piece. It would also make a daily driver as it is suitable in the most formal as well as the most casual of settings!

CASE & BRACELET
The case of this Rolex Explorer Ref. 114270 retains the original factory finish and has not been polished showing some very light patina from gentle use. The original Rolex Oyster 78690 bracelet with 12 links and solid end-links shows minimal wear and virtually no stretch.
DIAL
The wonderful gloss black dial, highly luminescent indices, and large Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock make the explorer the perfect balance between dress and sport. The Super-LumiNova lume glows very bright when exposed to light and the the submariner style hands are in perfect and original condition showing no age or wear.
