Military Issued Heuer Pilot’s "Bund" Bundeswehr Chronograph (Ref. 1550 SG)

German Heuer Pilot

The Bundeswehr chronographs were a general Issue chronograph for a number of military forces which included the German Federal Defense Force throughout the 1960s and 70s. Trying to identify and categorize Heuer Bunds is quite a difficult task. Long story short, there are well over two-dozen dial variations to account for. To the untrained eye, many of the dials seem to be the same, but as it goes with collecting vintage watches in general, the devil is in the details.

This specific "Bund" ref. 1550 SG retains its original "Tiny T" dial variant which has a very simple dial design, only featuring the "Heuer" logo and a small "T" above the 6 o'clock numeral.

DIAL & HANDS

The matte black “Tiny T” dial is in gorgeous original condition and shows some light signs of age. The tritium Arabic Numerals have taken on a lovely aged patina, under U.V. light inspection the 1 and 2 o’clock markers show very minor degradation, the rest of the lume plots remain fully intact. The original “Bund” hands have aged slightly darker than the dial, under U.V. light inspection the chronograph hand appears to have been professionally restored with tritium in the past, the hour and minute hand retains their original tritium lume.
