*Unpolished* 1978 Rolex Datejust (Ref. 16030) Black Dial
The Rolex Datejust is one of the most iconic and most beloved Rolex watches ever made, even though the Datejust was launched in 1945 it has remained a timeless classic and is instantly recognizable as an item of refined quality and functional design. The Datejust can be worn just as easily with a suit as it can be with jeans and a tee-shirt. This specific ref. 16030 from 1978 would make a great start for a new vintage collector or be a great addition to an expanding collection.
One of the largest evolutions for the Rolex Datejust model line up was at the end of the 1970s with the introduction of the first "flat dial" Datejust. The movement was vastly upgraded to the Rolex cal. 3035 quick-set movement. These Datejust variations are often referred to as being transitional as they still feature the more classic acrylic crystals and tritium lume, whilst housing many advancements.

CASE & BRACELET
The unpolished case is in excellent condition with strong factory finishing and sharp lugs that show honest signs of use. The stainless steel engine turned bezel remains unpolished as well and shows almost no wear from use. The watch will come supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.
DIAL & HANDS
The beautiful and rare black dial is immaculate, showing no wear or imperfections. The tritium lume plots have aged to a vibrant yellow coloration, under U.V. light inspection the lume plots remain full and round with no degradation. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and show no degradation when inspected under U.V. light. The date wheel is era correct with open 6's and 9's.
