*Unpolished* 1984 Rolex GMT-Master II (Ref. 16760) "Fat Lady"

Introduced in 1983 the Rolex reference 16760 was the first reference of the GMT-Master II and premiered significant new and exciting features that evolved the GMT-Master platform. The Rolex GMT Master Ref. 16760 was only in production from 1983 until 1988.

These features included a sapphire crystal, an independent ability to set the GMT hand, a thicker case that earned the reference the nickname "Fat Lady", the first GMT to use a black and red insert sometimes referred to as the "Coke" insert and a gloss black dial with white-gold index surrounds. The ref. 16760 is also sometimes referred to as the “Sophia Loren” drawing comparisons between the new curves of the watch and the Italian beauty.

This is a truly exceptional example and is becoming a highly sought-after modern classic. This piece would make a great stand-alone piece or a great addition to an existing collection!

CASE & BRACELET

The stunning case is believed to remain unpolished as the factory finishing is crisp throughout, showing strong chamfers down the lugs and very thick crown guards. The original "Coke" bezel insert has achieved and beautiful coloration, showing a deep Bordeaux red on the bottom and a deep grey coloration on top. The case back remains unpolished as well, showing its original factory finishing. The Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet is believed to be original, featuring the correct and rare 501 end pieces and dates to the same year as the watch. The bracelet retains 12 links that show light stretch from use.

DIAL & HANDS

The glossy black dial with white gold surround markers has taken on a lovely matte texture patina that is very common in "Fat Lady" dials. The tritium lume plots have aged to a gorgeous custard yellow coloration and show no degradation under U.V. light inspection. The original hands have been professionally resorted with tritium to match the dial. The white date wheel with open 6's and 9's is original.
