1968 Tudor Submariner (Ref. 7016/0) Gilt Dial W/ "Semi-PCG" Case

The Tudor Submariner reference 7016/0, introduced in 1968, underwent significant changes compared to its predecessor, the reference 7928. The 7016/0 introduced the iconic "Snowflake" dial and hands configuration, though not every ref. 7016/0 featured this configuration, and its movement was upgraded to an ETA 2483. Notably, the case also underwent a transformation.

Early 7016/0 Tudor Submariners are recognized among collectors as having a Semi-PCG or semi-pointed crown guard case. This refers to the distinct crown guard shape produced for the 7016/0 in the first half of 1968. While these crown guards are not precisely "pointed" like early PCG cases for both Rolex and Tudor, however, they are sloped up to a smaller rounded point, hence earning the name Semi-PCG. These cases were produced within a short serial number production range, first seen with the introduction of the reference in 1968 and replaced by the end of that same year.

CASE & BRACELET

The excellent "Semi-PCG" case exhibits honest signs of use and retains thick and symmetrical lugs and crown guards that still feature subtle chamfers despite being gently polished in the past. The Mk III "fat font" bezel insert remains deep black in color and is in great condition, showing minimal signs of use, and retains its tritium pearl. The case retains its original Rolex 7mm twin-lock crown. The case back features an engraving of the initials "D.C.N." and all of the factory engravings remain intact. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.

DIAL & HANDS

The original and virtually flawless semi-gloss black dial features a gilt minute track and white text. The tritium lume plots have achieved a golden patina and exhibit no degradation when inspected under UV light. The original hands including the "lollipop" second's hand appear to have been professionally restored with tritium lume and feature a creamy coloration that matches the aesthetic of the watch nicely.
