1993 Rolex DateJust Turn-O-Graph (Ref. 16264) Silver Dial

$ 4,500

The Rolex Turn-O-Graph is quite an interesting piece, alongside the Submariner and GMT as one of the first "tool" watches made by Rolex. In fact, the Rolex Turn-O-Graph was first launched by Rolex in 1953 the same year that the Rolex Submariner was introduced, and the GMT was introduced a year later in 1954. The Rolex Tun-O-Graph is considered a tool watch, or tool watch adjacent because of its rotating bezel which allows the wearer to set the bezel and time different events.

Often nicknamed the "Thunderbird" because the United States Air Force equipped the Thunderbird's aerobatic flight demonstration team with the 18k Rolex Turn-O-Graph watches for navigational timing & calculations. The Rolex ref. 1625 Tun-O-Graph models worn by the Thunderbirds team members were made from 18K solid yellow gold and featured the Thunderbird logo on the dial.

From the warm silver dial accompanied by its rotating white gold bezel, and classic Oyster bracelet, this 1993 Datejust ref. 16264 is the perfect example to be your next daily driver. The Rolex Datejust ref. 16264 is a transitional reference as it features a tritium dial, but features numerous upgrades such as a sapphire crystal and the Rolex Cal. 3135 movement which features a quick-set date function.

CASE & BRACELET

The strong case retains thick and symmetrical lugs that show crisp edges and factory finishing throughout with minimal signs of previous polishing present. The top and sides of the case show light signs of honest use, however, the underside of the crown side of the case does feature some scratches and wear, though it is not noticeable while worn on the wrist. The 18K white gold rotating "thunderbird" bezel is crisp and clean, showing minimal signs of previous use. The case back exhibits some wear. The later Rolex 78360 Oyster bracelet with 558B end pieces is a service unit and was sourced with the watch. The bracelet retains 11 links that show no stretch and will fit up to a 6 3/4-inch wrist.

DIAL & HANDS

The warm and well-preserved silver dial is in excellent vintage condition with no damage present and some dark aging present around the date window. The tritium lume plots remain bright with a subtle ivory coloration and exhibit no degradation under UV light inspection. The original tritium hands match the dial perfectly and show no degradation when inspected under UV light.

ACCESSORIES

None. The watch was recently serviced and is keeping time perfectly, backed by a 1-year warranty on accurate timekeeping.
