Movado
*Unpolished* 1940s Movado Calendograph Triple-Calendar 'Gold-Cap' (Ref. 14783) Two-Tone Silver Dial W/ Breguet Numeral Dial
Movado serves as a perfect reminder of what makes vintage watches so captivating in comparison to their modern counterparts. During the mid-century era, the brand stood shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Rolex and Patek Philippe, earning acclaim for both technical innovation and sophisticated design. In doing so, Movado established itself as one of the premier watchmakers of the period, with an influence that continues to shape horology today.
This beautifully executed 1940s Triple Calendar is a prime example of that legacy, effortlessly pairing refined aesthetics with the practical complication of tracking the day, date, and month. Its case was manufactured by the legendary François Borgel Case Company, famed for producing iconic cases such as the Patek Philippe ref. 1463 “Tasti Tondi” and Patek Philippe ref. 565. While François Borgel is often celebrated for crafting the waterproof cases used on Movado’s renowned M90 and M95 chronographs, the firm also produced several exceptional calendar watch cases for the brand, with this reference standing among the most desirable.
Preserved in exceptional, time-capsule-like condition, this example features a flawless two-tone silver dial adorned with elegant Breguet numerals, an impressively sharp unpolished gold-cap case, its original crown and pushers, and even the original anti-magnetic movement cover still intact. Altogether, it is a remarkably well-preserved and deeply charming piece of Movado and horological history.
