DOXA
*Unpolished* 1950s DOXA Anti-Magnetique Dress Watch "565-Type" Case
Founded in 1889 by Georges Ducommun, Doxa established its reputation long before the dive watches that would eventually define the brand. Its earlier offerings reveal an equally compelling side of the company: thoughtfully designed dress watches that paired understated elegance with practical construction. This 1950s Doxa Anti-Magnetique is a particularly attractive example, with a distinctive case that feels just as appropriate beneath a shirt cuff as it does alongside a T-shirt and jeans.
Much of its appeal lies in its resemblance to the celebrated Patek Philippe ref. 565. That reference’s flowing, integrated lugs and robust waterproof case helped establish a design language that remains highly regarded among collectors today. Its case manufacturer, Taubert & Fils, the firm behind the François Borgel “FB” hallmark, supplied the same case to Doxa. While their dials, movements, hands, and crystals differed, this shared case gave the Doxa models a direct connection to one of Patek Philippe’s most recognizable vintage designs. Those shared origins have made these so-called “Doxa 565s” sought after in their own right, offering that celebrated case architecture at a fraction of the price of their Patek Philippe counterparts.
This example belongs to a related category affectionately known as the “565-type.” While its case is neither stainless steel nor a product of the Borgel firm, it closely echoes the sculptural contours and integrated lug design that make those watches so appealing. A screw-down case back and an internal anti-magnetic movement shield lend substance to its elegant appearance, reflecting the practical considerations behind many of the period’s finest everyday watches.
The result is a compelling entry into vintage Doxa: a handsome, understated dress watch with the distinctive presence of the 565-style design at a more approachable price. Its appeal stands on its own, combining mid-century character, thoughtful construction, and an aesthetic that has lost none of its charm.

The case back exhibits gentle wear, with all factory markings remaining deep and fully intact. The original anti-magnetic movement cover is also present. The watch comes supplied on a two-piece handmade leather strap.
DIAL & HANDS
The beautifully preserved silver dial has developed a warm cream patina, with no notable marks or uneven aging. The radium lume plots have darkened with age and remain intact, with only very minor degradation visible at 10 o’clock. The original gilt syringe-style hands are in excellent condition and appear to have been professionally restored with tritium lume, which complements the dial nicely.
