1960s Heuer Autavia (Ref. 2446) First Execution Case W/ Mk. II Dial
The Heuer Autavia came into production in 1933 as a dashboard timer for automotive racing and flying, which is how the Autavia name is derived, being a portmanteau of Auto and Aviation. The Autavia was then reintroduced as a wristwatch in 1962 (The same year famous racer and Heuer Ambassador Jo Siffert entered Formula One) and quickly became the flagship for the entire Brand. That first reference introduced was the 2446, which is identified by collectors through the execution of the case and dial design.
The earliest examples with the first execution cases are the most sought-after by collectors. These somewhat enigmatic watches were produced in extremely low production numbers, with quickly evolving variants that all feature distinctive aesthetics equalling pure sport chronograph bliss. The benchmark set by the Autavia ref. 2446 created the tone for all Heuer sports watches moving forward and was the first example of what would be considered contemporary Heuer.

CASE & BRACELET
The exceptionally well-preserved case retains its original dimensions and factory angles with honest signs of gentle use and minimal evidence of being previously polished. The original bidirectional rotating bezel also remains in superb condition, showing almost no wear, minimal fading, with the lumed triangle intact. The case retains its original unsigned crown and small pump pushers. The screw-down case back retains all of the factory engravings in crisp and fully legible condition. The watch comes supplied on a 2pc handmade leather strap.
DIAL & HANDS
The original Mk. II matte black dial with white sub-dials is in virtually perfect vintage condition, exhibits no damage or notable age. The white sub-dials are also exceptional, showing no notable discoloration and only a few extremely subtle marks that are invisible to the naked eye. The radium lume plots have achieved a deep golden beige patina and exhibit no notable degradation under UV light inspection. The original radium dauphine style hands have aged a shade more saturated than the dial and also display no degradation when inspected under UV light.
